Epoch & Unix Timestamp Converter Online Free

A log line says 1700000000. A database column holds a long number instead of a date. Unix time is great for computers and hard for people. The PDFFlowState Epoch Converter and Timestamp Converter translate between the two in your browser, for free, with no account.

What do they do?

Use them as an epoch converter, Unix timestamp converter, epoch to date and date to epoch tool.

What is epoch time?

Unix epoch time counts the seconds since 1 January 1970 at 00:00:00 UTC. That moment is called the epoch, so:

  • 0 is 1 January 1970, 00:00:00 UTC.
  • 1000000000 is 9 September 2001, 01:46:40 UTC.

How to convert a timestamp

  1. Open the tool. Go to Epoch Converter or Timestamp Converter. They work on phone and desktop.
  2. Enter the timestamp or the date.
  3. Read the result in the other format.

No sign-up is needed, so both are free.

Seconds or milliseconds?

A 10-digit timestamp (like 1000000000) is usually in seconds. A 13-digit one is usually in milliseconds, as used by JavaScript. If a date comes out in the year 50000 or in 1970, you probably have the wrong unit.

Time zones

Unix time is always based on UTC. The readable date you see depends on the time zone it is shown in, so double-check which one you are reading.

When is it useful?

  • Reading logs and API responses.
  • Debugging databases that store dates as numbers.
  • Setting expiry times in tokens and cookies.
  • Scheduling and tests that need exact times.
